Principal flutist Elizabeth Rowe will step down from her position with the Boston Symphony Orchestra in August 2024, at the end of her 20th season.

PERSONAL STATEMENT

For nearly two decades, I have had the privilege of making extraordinary music alongside my exceptional colleagues in the Boston Symphony Orchestra. These years have been filled with both gratifying triumphs and transformative trials — experiences that offered me the rare opportunity to drive important conversations within the industry and to forge new paths.

These experiences have propelled me towards a new role, not as a performer or an advocate, but as a professional leadership coach. In this role I work at the intersection of career and personal development, partnering with high achievers across all industries as they work to reach their potential.  Armed with the perspective and experience gained through my journey with the BSO, I’m inspired by the opportunity to make a difference in a new way, empowering others to shape their lives — and workplaces — from the inside out.

As I reflect upon my performing career, I am filled with gratitude to all those who have been part of my musical life over these many decades. I celebrate this coming new chapter with heartfelt appreciation for the preceding chapter and for the enduring strength of my relationships with my BSO musician colleagues. I am excited to fully embrace this new role, stepping out of the spotlight of the concert stage and into the transformational space of deep conversations that are less visible, but equally impactful.
